Candidate Profile – Mark Tobin
I have been a Trafford resident for ten years and have lived in South Manchester since 1996. I
live in Altrincham and have a partner and two grown up daughters.
Career Background
I have been a Social Worker since 1996, initially in the community with children and families in
North Manchester and Oldham.
Subsequently, as a leader in children’s services, my career focused on care planning and securing
permanence for children via adoption or kinship.
My career has shaped my core values regarding safeguarding vulnerable people and the provision
of effective public services.
Labour Party Involvement
A lifelong Labour supporter, I joined the party in 2022 and since 2023 have been an active
campaigner in two local elections and the general election in 2024.
I served as Counting Agent at the election counts in both Local and General Elections in 2024.
I am actively involved in the Altrincham & Sale West Constituency Party, serving as Policy Officer
and Vice Chair of the Altrincham and Broadheath branch.
I attended the Regional Party Conference as delegate in November 2023.
I have considerable practical campaigning experience and understand the importance of
effective local engagement within the community we represent.
What I Would Bring to the Role of Councillor.
Having recently stepped back from my main work commitments, I now have the time and energy
to bring to being a candidate and councillor. I understand the value of supporting people to
access key local services and have seen the impact on individuals of inequality and discrimination
in society.
I am actively involved in the community, teaching English to asylum seekers, volunteering with a
Prostate Cancer charity, and a trustee of a children’s charity.
Since 2023 I have served as governor at Lostock High School and as Link Governor for
safeguarding.
My background working in communities for thirty years as well as in senior roles within children’s
services has given me significant knowledge of public sector and local government operations
and governance, which combined with my campaigning experience would be valuable in the
councillor role.
My experience working with children and parents has equipped me with strong interpersonal and
advocacy skills which I believe would be an asset in serving and engaging with the community
of Lostock & Barton as a councillor.
