Why Shortlist and Choose This Candidate: Resilient Roots, Community Spirit, and a Relentless Voice for Lostock and Barton Ward

Candidate: Mal Mohibullah Choudhury

I am proud to put my name forward as an approved candidate for consideration to represent the Labour Party in Lostock and Barton Ward.

This borough—its roads, parks, schools, and community centres—isn’t just where I live. It’s where I have grown, worked, studied, raised a family, and fought for others. After 38 years in Trafford, I bring not just insight, but lived experience and an unshakeable commitment to public service.

As a former child labourer rescued by teachers and social workers, my four years in the care system were transformative. I am a care leaver who worked full-time across George Carnall, Stretford, Longford Park, Urmston and Partington Leisure Centres to fund my education.

From struggle came strength. From hardship, purpose.

I now serve as a Local Government Committee Representative, a proud Co-operative Party and Unite Community member, and an active Labour campaigner on the doorsteps and airwaves.

My values—equality, compassion, and justice—aren’t slogans. They are lived truths.

With decades of community work across youth justice, social care, education, and mental health reform, I bring more than promises—I bring delivery. I am a team player, a principled negotiator, and a resolute listener who speaks up when it matters.

My skills, experience, and humility would complement the outstanding work of Cllr Shirley Procter and Cllr Jill Axford, while continuing the powerful legacy of Cllr Michael Cordingley—a true champion of the people.

Lostock and Barton is resilient, diverse, and rich in potential, but still faces deep inequality, underfunded services, and a cost-of-living crisis. I will work tirelessly to ensure that every voice is heard and that our children grow up in a community that protects, includes, and inspires.

Whether it's tackling youth injustice, advocating for trauma-informed schools, protecting green spaces, or supporting care leavers and working-class families—I will always put people first.

This is more than a campaign. This is a life’s mission dedicated to justice, community, and opportunity.

I do not ask for your vote lightly.

I ask for your trust, your confidence, and your partnership in building a stronger, fairer Lostock and Barton Ward for others to admire.

Thank you for reading this.
