Statement of Interest – Lostock and Barton

I’m putting myself forward to be considered as the Labour candidate for Lostock and Barton because I want to continue supporting our strong local Labour team and help deliver real improvements for our community. I’ve lived in Trafford for around 10 years with my wife and our three children. I’ve served as a school governor and volunteer football coach, and I’m deeply committed to our borough’s future.

I’ve been an active Labour member for over 20 years, campaigning at every election since 2001. I’m Chair of the Sale Moor Branch, a GC delegate, and regularly campaign across Trafford - canvassing, leafleting, and supporting councillors. In 2021, I was Labour’s candidate in St Mary’s, where I gained a 5% swing to Labour, helping turn a safe Tory seat into a marginal that Labour went on to win. Over three weeks I delivered 5,000 leaflets, walked 50 miles, and knocked on every door in the Sale West estate. Crucially, I brought new members into the campaign who had never been active before.

I’ve worked in senior roles for the Labour Party nationally during General Elections and for three Labour MPs - gaining valuable experience in community engagement, policy development, and communications. I also ran a successful national campaign to save the Education Maintenance Allowance, securing funding for 250,000 young people - including 30,000 in the North West. I’ve fought for workers’ rights through my trade union roles in Unite and at the CWU.

I’ve worked closely with Labour Mayors like Andy Burnham, and the GMCA, to campaign for better infrastructure and secure greater investment across the North. I’d bring that campaigning experience and policy knowledge to support our councillors and residents in Lostock and Barton.

If selected, I’ll be a visible, active, and collaborative councillor - working all year round to support our Labour team and represent local people with energy and commitment.
